Frank Gio & Liza Josselyn target the Prix d’Amérique
Frank Gio, who took his first victory against older horses in the U.E.T. Elite Circuit Final on October 11 by beating Go On Boy and Don Fanucci Zet, has his eyes set on another start in the Prix d’Amérique.
It has been confirmed that he’ll take a short break after his effort from the death seat in Turin. He’ll then prepare by racing in the Prix Marcel Laurent on November 12, a race open to four- and five-year-olds, before lining up in the Prix Ténor de Baune on December 27. In this race, the winner will secure a direct ticket to the Prix d’Amérique.
Frank Gio finished fourth in last year’s Prix d’Amérique after an incredible surge from the pack. Known for his closing speed, he’ll be looking to be in the conversation again.
However, in both the Prix Marcel Laurent and Prix Ténor de Baune, he is expected to meet Liza Josselyn, the defending champion in the Prix Marcel Laurent. The mare has had some struggles in her recent races and has taken some time off since the Critérium des 5 Ans on September 12. She will gradually increase her training.
Liza Josselyn will head to the Prix Doynel de Saint-Quentin on December 5 before starting in the Prix Ténor de Baune.
“We haven’t had much of a chance to discuss it with Jean-Michel Bazire, but personally, if she were to win, I think she’d be capable of going.” trainer Nicolas Bazire told Paris-Turf, referring to the Prix d’Amérique.
With already two big names aiming for the bigger races this season, we can prepare ourselves for incredible battles on track.
