Impala de Val chases another record in the Prix Reynolds
Impala de Val is not only chasing a sixth consecutive victory but also another record in the Prix Reynolds. The gelding has been the world record holder over 2,175m since June 2, when he clocked 1'09''5 at Vincennes. He returned over the same distance in September and followed it up with another sub-10 performance, recording 1'09''9.
Impala de Val has been among the leading forces in the monté discipline for years. Although the gelding seems almost unbeatable, he is unable to compete in France's group 1 races as geldings are not eligible.
In the Prix Reynolds, he can aim for another big record, but will have to come close to his own world record to do so. The race record stands at 1'10''0, set by Fulton in 2024.
His trainer, Pierre Edouard Mary, is happy with his horse:
"He has remained in good form since his victory in September. Everything is looking good leading up to the event. The goal is to keep enjoying ourselves, to maintain our momentum. We have incredible statistics, we need to try and improve them."
The main challenge might come from Keengame, who has finished second behind Impala de Val twice. Although unreliable, she is fast and is getting back into a rhythm while aiming for another Prix de Cornulier.
Ideale du Chêne, a regular name in the biggest monté races, returns after a five-month break. The mare is consistent but has struggled to grab a victory.
Her trainer, Julien Le Mer, explains the goal for the upcoming race: I think she's around 80% physically. We'll race her from behind and make our move over the final 500 metres, so as not to race too aggressively. The meeting is going to be long for her, especially the second half. This race will allow us to judge where she stands.’’
Jazz In Montreux did well during the previous winter season in the discipline and looks to be continuing to improve in form. Hymne du Gers is best under saddle and, accompanied by Alexandre Abrivard, cannot be counted out for a podium finish.
Gold Voice is consistent when it comes to the minor placings. Imagine d'Atout is fast but has yet to prove herself against the best. Halfa and Heden Cruz always put their heart on the track, but with plates on, they are not reliable betting options.
