Bjerke: Big Noon-Pokalen & Axel Jensens Minneløp races
Updated: Oct 30
An incredible day of racing is set for Bjerke on October 31, with names such as Wise Guy, Blizzard Diamant, Peggy Boko, Baron Tilly, Charron and Clarissa among the highlights.
The Big Noon-Pokalen starts at 16:06, followed by the Axel Jensens Minneløp for Fillies at 16:50 and the Axel Jensens Minneløp at 17:16.
Read about the races below. You can find the complete program here.
Hagoort with chances in the Axel Jensens Minneløp races
Peggy Boko has done well in both her U.E.T. Grand Prix elimination and final (second in the elimination, fourth in the final), showing strength behind the gate and in the home straight. Gate number 3 puts her in the perfect position to do well here, and she will start as the big favorite.
In the Axel Jensens Minneløp, we can expect a battle on track. We see Blizzard Diamant, who finished second behind Fragolino Rosso in the German Derby and has won 14 of his 16 career starts. Post 3 is decent, but his starting speed remains a question mark.
He will meet the excellent Wise Guy, who hasn’t done a lot wrong in his career, with the Breeders Course final and the E3 final for three-year-olds among the highlights. He made a break in the final 100m in the Swedish Derby after an incredibly tough trip in the death seat. Number 8 means he’ll have to do some work again, but he's proven to be capable.
Stable companion Bank returned to the track on October 1 after a two-month break but made a mistake. He will be looking to get into a rhythm again and should be better here. Post 2 suits the horse well.
Big Noon-Pokalen
Baron Tilly returns after a two-month break. The sprint distance suits him, as proven in his latest race on August 15. He might struggle with post 1 but still one of the strongest horses in the field over any distance. Starting barefoot, everything points towards a return with intentions.
Daim Brodda will like her chances from post 2. She finished second behind Allegiant in the Hugo Åbergs Memorial on July 28 in 1’08’’8. Performances have been on and off since then. Will be looking to maximize her efforts with a golden draw.
Charron has been inconsistent this season, with gallops behind the gate. Still, he puts in impressive performances afterwards. Number 5 gives him chances, and he cannot be counted out. Powwow got too hot behind the gate in Turin and wasn’t placed. A nice performer with a great kick. One for the minor places.
Clarissa will try to redeem herself after a gallop on October 10, which was also her comeback race after lameness. Again unlucky with the draw. A mare with ability and has the capacity to bounce back.
Trainer Daniel Wäjersten appears with Lando Mearas and Before Takeoff. Both can handle the distance, but Before Takeoff has the better draw of the two, and is a capable starter. Lando Mearas, however, is strong and doesn’t need a perfect race to finish on the podium. Both have chances, but Lando Mearas is the better performer of the two.
Castor The Star returns after a two-month break. He hasn’t been at his best, and a small placing would be a good achievement here. Xantis Harvey is looking for a breakthrough performance and has been struggling since July. The distance suits him.
