Grand Prix de l 'U.E.T. Final: Field Analysis

4 min read

The European Derby. Where some of the best 4-year-olds across Europe will face off over 2100m, with €200,000 on the line for the winner. With names like Dream Mine, Epic Kronos, Face Time Bourbon, Readly Express, Bold Eagle and Robert Bi on the roll of honor, the race is widely seen as one of the early indicators of who might become the next big champion. The race is set to start at 17:00 on Sunday.

Milady Josselyn, Maestro Vrie and My Quality Piya will start barefoot behind. The rest of the field will start completely barefoot.

  1. Milady Josselyn - Adrian Kolgini

On paper, the best bred horse of them all. With Uza Josselyn and Ready Cash she qualifies as a blue-bred filly. She’s been getting stronger and more reliable, but she has been getting tough trips in important races. Her elimination, however, was timed to perfection. Number one does put her in an awkward position as she isn’t among the fastest starters on the front row. If she gets a nice trip, she’s capable of outperforming many.

  2. Guglielmo Jet - Alessandro Gocciadoro

Returned to racing after a three-month break in the U.E.T. Elimination, but resumed where he left off, winning races. Guglielmo Jet belongs to the top of the generation throughout Europe, having proven himself in group 1 races in Italy and France. The question is whether he can take another step forward in the final after his comeback. He doesn’t appear to be the fastest starter, but is capable from any position in the field and can handle a tough race.

  3. Maestro Vrie - Mathieu Mottier

The flying Frenchman. Has shown he can beat everyone with his blistering speed. Best from a hidden position to turn on the jets as late as possible. Has strong personal bests over all distances, but his downfall does seem to be that he can’t do too much work during the race without impairing his speed.

That makes his starting position important, as he needs a race where he can save his energy for the final straight. With the correct trip, a force to be reckoned with.

  4. Mellby Narrow - Daniel Wäjersten

The Swedish Derby winner has really found his top form. Has now won three races in a row and his elimination was won with considerable ease. Has grown into a strong performer and doesn’t mind racing hard, with a win from the death seat already on his record. Number four gives him options early. He has already proven himself in Sweden and now takes on some of the best in Europe.

  5. Fragolino Rosso - Robin Bakker

The most used to traveling to other countries. Has won in The Netherlands, Sweden, France and Germany. Has scored 14 victories from 16 races and is looking for his 12th victory in a row. He has been an honest and reliable performer throughout his career and has continued to show improvement in his latest races. Likes to go from the front, but is capable of a fast finish when racing from the field. His elimination victory showed he can handle a strong pace and finish accordingly. He looks to be the horse to beat.

  6. Peggy Boko - Matthieu Abrivard

Showed her class in her qualifiying heat. She started extremely fast and made way for Mellby Narrow. She noted a big personal best which indicates she’s got the strength to compete in this field. The question is whether she can repeat that effort against the horses she’s meeting here. She’ll need to be at her best, but her starting speed gives her a chance to get a good position early. Matthieu Abrivard will drive her for the first time.

  7. Miss Matters - Romain Derieux

Has been racing in Sweden and France throughout her career, meeting some big names but still has mostly raced against mares and in lower-rated races. Performed strongly in her heat and finished close to Maestro Vrie and lowering her personal best immensely. Overall a consistent performer but needs a big personal best once again to do any harm here.

  8. My Quality Piya - Franck Nivard

Finished fifth in elimination A, but was able to qualify on time. Has only stepped up in class recently and from post 8 she doesn’t look strong enough to be a part of the conversation.

  9. Ginger Gio - Roberto Vecchione

An outsider in most of his races. In his qualifying race he benefited from one of the favorites breaking stride. He has struggled to regularly compete at the top level throughout his career, with only a limited number of strong results against this kind of opposition. He'll need to find a good position to ge the most out of his chances, like he did in qualifying.

  10. Recycle Cash - Magnus Djuse

Finished extremely strong in his elimination. Out of 18 starts over 2100 and 2140m, he’s finished in the top four 14 times. His shape is where it needs to be for a big final. Has shown he can perform from the less favorable positions behind the gate. With a strong position in the field, he’s dangerous.

  11. Mostra de Banville - Clément Duvaldestin

An unpredictable performer. She stepped it up in her elimination and held on strong, battling for victory until the finish line. Racing from behind doesn’t look to be in her favor, but she has loads of experience in group 1, 2 and 3 races against the best in France. If she has a good day, she’s a wildcard.

  12. Gangster Vendil - Oskar Kylin Blom

An incredibly strong and consistent performer from Sweden. He hasn’t finished outside of the top six in 2026, making him a reliable horse for on the tickets. He has both speed and strength. Finishing third in his heat means he’ll have to do the work, but if one can do it, it’s Gangster Vendil.
