Winter Watch: Dream Mine
Since 2024, when he was only a three-year-old, he has been the talk of the track, but in 2026 he fully established himself among the best in the world.
Dream Mine has been one of the best trotters in Sweden for almost three years, with a top-three placing percentage of 91%. In the 2026 Elitloppet final, he recorded the second-fastest time ever, behind the unbeatable Allegiant, in 1’07’’3.
Although he hasn’t been seen on track since August 19, he won’t prepare on Swedish soil for his ultimate bid towards a successful French winter season. On December 5, he’ll appear in the Prix Doynel de Saint-Quentin to prepare for the Prix Ténor de Baune on December 27. Both races are reserved for five-year-olds, and in the latter, the winner will grab a direct ticket to the Prix d’Amérique.
The Prix Doynel de Saint-Quentin is a group 2 race over 2,850m, where the winner will earn €54,000. The podium finishers will earn priority towards the Prix Ténor de Baune. Dream Mine, however, has little to worry about. He is currently the richest five-year-old in Europe, and his earnings look to be enough to qualify for the Prix d’Amérique based on earnings alone.
In both races, he’s expected to meet the likes of Frank Gio (U.E.T. Elite Final winner) and Liza Josselyn. Other French and international five-year-olds who could feature include Lombok Jiel, Lovino Bello, Liberté de Choisel and Bullet The Bluesky. Leading name Free Time Jepson has not announced his winter plans yet.
Even though it will be his comeback race after almost three months, Dream Mine has shown that he doesn't need a race to reach peak performance after a break. After winning the Breeders Crown for four-year-olds on November 15, 2025, he returned on May 2, 2026, to win the Berth Johanssons Memorial in 1'10''7.
He will be driven, as usual, by Mats Djuse, whom Jörgen Westholm would like to entrust with his horses as often as possible so that he can become familiar with the French track and racing style. Mats Djuse has already put a win on his record with Ready Star on November 6 from behind the gate. We’ll have to wait and see if he’ll be able to familiarise himself with the turning procedure.
For Dream Mine, the challenge will be to adapt to Vincennes and carry his Swedish form over to France. Can he make his mark during the winter meeting?
