Weekend Recap: Who delivered across Europe?
We have once again been treated to an incredible weekend of racing across Europe. Even though the winter meeting has started at Vincennes, the focus was on other European countries this weekend.
We look back at the performances and, as always, all replays are included.
Killer Rain secures front row for Prijs der Giganten
Every year, it is possible to earn a direct ticket to the Prijs der Giganten. The so-called Giganten Trial is raced two weeks before the big race. By winning the Trial, the horse qualifies and is guaranteed a start on the front row in the Prijs der Giganten.
This year, it was Killer Rain who dominated the Giganten Trial. After a strong start, he took the lead after the first turn and only had to accelerate once more in the home straight. He looked strong and confident and might be a big challenger in the upcoming final.
Killer Rain won in 1'12''6 over 2100m.
Three finals in Italy
In Italy, there was a beautiful Sunday of racing with the Gran Premio delle Nazioni, the Orsi Mangelli and the Orsi Mangelli for Fillies.
Free Time Jepson got a covered trip after a careful start in the Gran Premio delle Nazioni, but still had to use all his speed to reel in Falco Killer Gar, who had broken free of the field in the last corner. Big favorite Go On Boy could not deliver after a tough trip three wide, while Free Time Jepson took victory in 1’11’’4 over 2100m.

Filly Ischia Joy took victory in an impressive manner in the open Orsi Mangelli. She has now won both the Italian Oaks and the Orsi Mangelli, making it clear that she’s one of the best of the 3-year-old generation in Italy. She’s expected to race at Vincennes during this winter meeting.
Ischia Joy finished second in her heat earlier that day, behind Il Trio Jet. The roles were reversed later in the final where she finished first in 1’10’’8 over 1600m.

Oaks runner-up Ingrid Am won the Orsi Mangelli for Fillies. She was able to take the lead with ease from post 10 and didn’t have any problems throughout the race, taking an easy victory without any real challenges in 1’12’’9 over 1600m.
Elitloppet speculations after Bjerke performance
Daim Brodda delivered from start to finish in the Big-Noon Pokalen. She resisted the late charge of Before Takeoff, while Lando Mearas finished third with visibly a lot left in the tank. Baron Tilly returned to racing after a break and performed creditably. After a slow start, he still finished well to take fourth. Daim Brodda recorded 1’09’’9 over 1609m.

Peggy Boko made the expected fast start in the Axel Jensens Minneløp for Fillies. She held on to the lead throughout the race, but was surprised by a late charge from Sherburne S in the last 80m. Not expecting the late challenge, she barely managed to hold on, but still took victory in 1’12’’4 over 2100m.
Blizzard Diamant put on a performance in the Axel Jensens Minneløp that has people speculating about an Elitloppet participation. After a decent start from post 3, he had to settle in the death seat. He didn’t show any problems with the tougher race at all, accelerating easily in the last 200m. He looked to have a lot left in the tank but still recorded 1’09’’4 over 1609m, a new racerecord.
The road to the Breeders Crown finals
On Sunday, it was time for the Breeders Crown eliminations at Solvalla, with the finals set for November 14 at Eskilstuna. Both Trav-Kriterium and Trav-Oaks winners, Nanda Deivi Cut and Zeebreeze, will be present. A notable performance came from Love To The Limit, who won convincingly after a tough race in the death seat. In the same race, Filly Derby winner Meditate could not repeat her strong performances from earlier this year.

Milady Josselyn bounced back beautifully after her fifth place in the Grand Prix de l'U.E.T. Final in Turin on October 11. She charged home late to take an easy victory in her elimination.
Also returning from Turin, Recycle Cash had to work a little harder for his victory. In the same race, Lugano Cortina produced a strong performance despite getting a tough trip, while Gumshoe Sox finished fast.
Zarex also secured his place in the final after a strong finish from the back of the field. The gelding has qualified for six major finals during his career but is still looking for his first major title.
No Hitter beat E3 Final winner Steady Spender from the lead. Although inconsistent, No Hitter is able to perform with Björn Goop in the bike.
Kodiak Zet, who was favored in the Trav-Kriterium, narrowly got the better of Nanda Deivi Cut, who performed strongly from the death seat.
