Swedish Championships: No clear favorite
Updated: Oct 1
A group 2 race for Swedish-born 4-year-olds and older horses. Since 2022, the race has been named the ‘Olle Goops Pokal’, to honor the legacy of Olle Goop (1943-2022), one of Sweden’s most successful drivers/trainers with over 6700 career victories. Notably, his son Björn Goop won the first edition after the race was renamed in 2022.
The race record is held by Power, 1’11’’6, which he set in 2023. This year’s edition features a stacked field that deserves attention.
Epic Kronos is a late scratch and the early favorite will not be able to participate due to a hoof abscess.
High On Pepper is a household name in the big races in Sweden. He excels over the longer distances and is capable of racing hard. With the distance in his favor, he should be capable of a top-four finish.
Fighter Kronos has been racing in France and Norway and hasn’t been outside the top three since early 2026. A horse in shape. With experience in the temple of trot and victories over the longer distances, he looks to be a dangerous player. Björn Goop will take the reins for the first time, meaning we have to look out for this duo.
Kentucky River is a great racer over all distances but struggles to fight for victory. Belongs on all the tickets.
Ready Star might be the most consistent horse in the field, barely finishing outside the top three. Mostly races over shorter distances. Is capable as a stayer but needs a good race to finish well. Might be looking for a fast start and an inside trip to make use of the slipstream.
A Fair Day is the true ‘horse of the people’. With fans across the globe and big performances in big races, he cannot disappoint. He likes to go from the lead, which will be difficult from post 10. Although capable over the longer distances, facing some of the best in Sweden, he will have to be at his very best.
Call Me Gleipner is used to the competition he will face but needs a big personal best over the distance to battle with the favorites. Fighting character.
Boscha Diablo belongs among the best in Sweden over shorter distances but hasn’t proven himself over the longer distances. With the perfect gate number, he can try to do so here.
Macahan has won two races at Cabourg in notable times but seems to struggle in Swedish races. An outsider in this field.
Barack Face is mostly inconsistent and looks best over the shorter distances. With a difficult draw, this race seems out of his reach.
Orosei Boko steps up in class but will be driven by ‘The Iceman’ Carl Johan Jepson. A dangerous driver in big races. Interesting outsider for the tickets.
A wide open field and a lot of horses capable of taking advantage of Epic Kronos not participating.
Favorites: High On Pepper, Kentucky River, Fighter Kronos
Challengers: Ready Star, A Fair Day, Boscha Diablo, Call Me Gleipner
Outsiders: Macahan, Barack Face, Orosei Boko
